Eastern’s Diploma of Arts is the first year of the Bachelor of Arts and is built on the understanding that faith, as well as social and personal values, shapes life, including communities, families, cultures, social and workplace. You’ll discover the interplay between knowledge, values, social justice and more.
This one-year course is a great way to get a grounding in the Christian faith, learn to study, possibly take up an internship and explore what the future holds for you.
Deepen your faith and knowledge as you undertake core Christian Foundation units, and explore specialisations such as community development, ministry, counselling, education, English, history, linguistics, mathematics and social science.
For students who don’t have an ATAR for their desired course, the Diploma of Arts provides the building blocks to move into a future degree of your choice. It’s also a great alternative to undertaking a complete Bachelor of Theology, offering practical church leadership and a pathway into a bi-vocational career in the future.
The Diploma in Arts is composed of 8 units of 6 credit points each completed over 1-year full-time equivalent (48 credit points in total).
Students undertaking this award are required to complete:
Students must complete three units in a specialisation.
To be completed at either “500” (Introductory level) or “600” (Intermediate Level)
Students must complete three elective units.
To be completed at either “500” (Introductory level) or “600” (Intermediate Level)
All applicants will be required to meet Eastern’s General Entry Requirements.
Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)
Students must have satisfactorily completed the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or equivalent.
Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study
Applicants with complete or incomplete vocational education and training (VET) studies may be admitted to the course.
Applicants with higher education study
Applicants with complete or incomplete Higher Education studies may be admitted to the course.
Applicants with work and life experience
Mature Age entry is available for those who have reached the age of 21.
Applicants must meet the English language requirements.
You may be entitled to credit for prior learning, whether formal or informal. Formal learning can include previous study in higher education, vocational education, or adult and community education. Informal learning can include on the job learning or various kinds of work and life experience. Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree.
