New student intakes take place in February and July each year. Applications should be received as early as possible, and will not be accepted after the closing dates.
General Entry Requirements
All potential students are required to demonstrate their suitability for their desired course via an interview with a member of faculty and provide contact details for a referee.
Admission Criteria
Australian Year 12 students
All applicants apply directly to the College and are assessed on the evidence of a completion of year 12 studies and/or ATAR score.
ATAR-related adjustments
The College offers ATAR-related adjustments for courses requiring an ATAR. Details of the ATAR adjustments are in the College’s Student Admissions Policy.
Criteria that may apply in addition to ATAR
Applicants on this pathway are required to comply with the General Entry Requirements for all Courses in the Students Admissions Policy which include the requirement for an interview and endorsement from a confidential character referee, written on a Confidential Character Reference Form supplied by the College.
Other admission options
Where a course expects a minimum ATAR and the applicant is able to provide documentary evidence from the school or a medical practitioner of circumstances beyond their control that impacted their secondary studies the college will consider exceptional admissions.
Interstate Year 12
Students from interstate will be assessed on equivalent requirements.
Overseas Students
Overseas students must be at least 18 years of age upon commencement.
Applicants who have successfully completed VET study are assessed on the recency of the studies and a demonstrated capacity to study at the relevant level. Applicants in this category are required to comply with the General Entry Requirements for all Courses in the Student Admissions Policy.
Applicants who have completed previous studies relevant to the course may wish to apply for transfer of credit or recognition of prior learning by completing the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Transfer of Credit Application form. Details of the process can be found in the Credit Transfer Policy.
Applicants who have successfully completed higher education study are assessed on the recency of the studies (less than ten years) and a demonstrated capacity to study at the relevant level. Applicants in this category are required to comply with the General Entry Requirements for all Courses in the Student Admissions Policy.
Applicants who have completed previous studies relevant to the course may wish to apply for transfer of credit or recognition of prior learning by completing the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Transfer of Credit Application form. Details of the process can be found in the Credit Transfer Policy.
Applicants with work and life experience are assessed on the relevance of the work and life experience to the course they are applying for but particularly on a demonstrated capacity to study at the level required. All applicants who enter through this pathway must comply with the General Entry Requirements for all Courses in the Student Admissions Policy and course-specific entry requirements.
Finished secondary education more than two years ago
Applicants who have finished secondary education more than two years ago are assessed on the ATAR received if one was received, or for most undergraduate courses being over 21 years of age. There must be a demonstrated capacity to study at the relevant level. Prospective students in this category are required to comply with the General Entry Requirements for all Courses in the Students Admissions Policy and course-specific entry requirements.
Bridging and enabling course entry
Applicants who have completed bridging courses such as English for Academic Purposes are assessed on a demonstrated capacity to study at the relevant level. Prospective students in this category are required to comply with the General Entry Requirements for all Courses in the Student Admissions Policy and course-specific entry requirements.
Additional information
Eastern College Australia encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply though there are no specific application processes for this group of people.
Domestic applicants such as Australian citizens or permanent residents with overseas qualifications will have their qualifications examined according to the English Proficiency Policy or by the College confirming the equivalency of any awarded Academic credential from outside Australia with the qualifications of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) using the Australian Education International – National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) Country Education Profile (CEP) register.
For studies at Eastern College Australia, prospective students will be deemed to have sufficient English proficiency if:
- They were born in one of the designated countries and have completed at least one qualification (secondary or tertiary) in one of those countries, undertaken in English.
- They were not born in one of the designated countries but have completed senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university study in one of these countries and the language undertaken in English:
Designated countries: American Samoa; Australia; Botswana; Canada; Fiji; Ghana; Guyana; Ireland; Jamaica; Kenya; Lesotho; Liberia; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Singapore; Solomon Islands; South Africa; Tonga; Trinidad and Tobago; United Kingdom; USA; Zambia; Zimbabwe.
They have successfully completed a senior secondary qualification, a post-secondary Diploma qualification of at least two years, an undergraduate program of three years or more, or a postgraduate program of two years or more FT or more, undertaken in a non-English speaking country provided the study:
was completed in an institution which is listed in the International Handbook of Universities, World Higher Education Database, UK Naric Database or AEI NOOSR guides or an institution accredited through one of ICETE’s registered accrediting bodies and is confirmed by the institution as having been conducted and examined solely in the English language.
They have attained results in one of the following qualifications:
- IELTS Academic
- TOEFL (Paper based)
- TOEFL (Internet)
- Pearson Test of English (Academic)
- Cambridge English Advanced

Each applicant will be interviewed by an Academic Staff Member in person, by phone or over the internet. Each application is reviewed by the Registrar and a Course Coordinator to ensure that the entry requirements for the chosen course have been met. Depending on how quickly confidential referee forms are completed by the referees this can take as little as a week or over a month. Upon acceptance into the course, the applicant will be notified via email and provided with enrolment information to select units to study in the upcoming semester. To change or withdraw from the offer you have received, you must respond to the acceptance and enrolment letter.
After enrolment, student progress is carefully monitored. Applicants should note that a limited number of units are available online. We recommend that you contact the College to discuss options if considering taking online units. If you have questions regarding a course we encourage you to discuss your study options with the College before applying for entry into a particular course. College staff are always pleased to assist individuals in this process.

Financial Assistance
The financial assistance available to students is as follows:
- Youth and student allowances are available for all undergraduate and graduate courses, the federal government is currently reviewing eligibility for student allowances to all Master level courses.
- Eastern College Australia is registered for FEE-HELP for all Higher Education courses and a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places which use HECS-HELP for our Initial Teacher Education courses.
