Diploma in Arts

A broad-based, vigorous education exploring ideas and faith
How to Apply
  • Course Code: CRS1300320
  • Adv Diploma, Associate Degree
  • Duration - 1 Year full-time or part-time equivalent
  • Location - Wantirna
  • Delivery Mode - On Campus, partial online
  • Available to domestic students and overseas students - CRICOS Code: 102320B

Eastern’s Diploma of Arts is the first year of the Bachelor of Arts and is built on the understanding that faith, as well as social and personal values, shapes life, including communities, families, cultures, social and workplace. You’ll discover the interplay between knowledge, values, social justice and more.

This one-year course is a great way to get a grounding in the Christian faith, learn to study, possibly take up an internship and explore what the future holds for you.

Deepen your faith and knowledge as you undertake core Christian Foundation units, and explore specialisations such as community development, ministry, counselling, education, English, history, linguistics, mathematics and social science.

For students who don’t have an ATAR for their desired course, the Diploma of Arts provides the building blocks to move into a future degree of your choice. It’s also a great alternative to undertaking a complete Bachelor of Theology, offering practical church leadership and a pathway into a bi-vocational career in the future.

Where will this lead me?

  • You’ll be equipped to enter paraprofessional work in a range of contexts including supportive roles in churches, non-government and para-church organisations.

  • Work in youth and community development settings.

  • Continue to study. The Diploma in Arts can become the first year of a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Applied Social Science.

COURSE Structure

The Diploma in Arts is composed of 8 units of 6 credit points each completed over 1-year full-time equivalent (48 credit points in total).

  • EN503 Literature and Worldview

And one of the following units:

Specialisation

Electives

To be completed at either “500” (Introductory level) or “600” (Intermediate Level)

  • Students may study 48 credit points from “500” (Introductory level) units.

  • Students must not include more than 12 credit points in Industry Engagement (IE) or Practicum (PR) subjects in the Diploma.

What Students

are saying

Through the Dip Arts (Ministry) our students have deepened in their appreciation of God and the world, they have been better equipped to helpfully critique what is going on around them and offer thoughtful solutions, and they have been able to gain hands-on ministry experience under supervision. Each of our Dip Arts interns intends to continue studying further, including into further theological study.
