The Graduate Diploma of Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing is a course for professionals who work with young people and who wish to deepen their understanding of the challenges that young people face, to learn ways to improve their lives, and acquire tools that integrate these issues into faith in Christ.
The course is suited to Christian professionals who wish to extend and specialise their training so they can work more effectively with young people. This includes secondary teachers, chaplains, counsellors, nurses, pastors, youth ministers, youth workers, social workers, psychologists, medical practitioners, occupational therapists, and community development workers. It is offered part-time with flexible delivery to suit people who have existing work commitments.
Graduates of this course will have specialised knowledge and expert, specialised skills to work with young people aged 12- 25 years. They will have an advanced understanding of the key mental health challenges faced by this age group; be able to independently and professionally engage and work with young people; apply key approaches to wellbeing; and have an advanced understanding of youth development and the complexities of identity formation.
The Graduate Diploma of Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing is a coursework award consisting of 48 credit points. It is designed to be studied part-time.
The course follows a structured progression common to the Graduate Certificate in Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing.
Eastern College Australia values the history, culture and languages of First Nations people and we welcome their participation in all of our courses.
A related undergraduate degree, with subjects in pastoral care, counselling, psychology, theology, ministry, social work, youth studies, or other allied health.
OR
An undergraduate degree that is not directly relevant to this course, together with at least 2 years of experience working in pastoral ministry or a youth specific position.
This course is not open to overseas students to study in Australia.
Applicants must meet the English language requirements.
Students are encouraged to complete the course as a logical progression. For example, YH801, YH802, YH803, YH804 can be completed in year 1; YH836, YH837, YH901, YH902 can be completed in year 2.
Students may exit the Graduate Diploma of Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing early, and graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing, so long as they fulfill the requirements of this award.
