Is God stirring your desire to be equipped to serve in your local church or further afield? This engaging and practical training will develop your ministry skills and knowledge, while you go deeper in your personal discipleship journey with Jesus.

You’ll gain a range of knowledge and skills in foundational Christian beliefs, communication, teamwork, spiritual formation and evangelism and discipling. Put your learning into practice in your local church, mission or business, or simply use your learning to become more confident in your faith – and enjoy the benefit of having no major essays or exams! This qualification fits well with church, para-church and mission internship programs.

This course is offered at Wantirna, Launceston and Albany campuses. Each campus offers different units and different local timetables. Online classes and part-time options allow you to study from anywhere in Australia or overseas.

Where will this lead me?

  • Jump from this Certificate into further study such as Diploma in Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, Diploma in Christian Studies or Bachelor of Ministry. 

  • Employment in church, para-church or mission contexts.

  • Lay leadership within a church context, particularly in discipling and small group ministry.

  • Join a church planting team and see a church begin!

COURSE Structure

  • The course has been developed as a one-year full-time equivalent program.

  • Students must successfully complete nine units made up of six core and three electives.

  • The course is delivered in two formats – online and on-campus. 

  • Students are required to be complete 32 hours of work placement in a church, ministry or business setting with diversity in ministry and in teams, for the successful completion of CHCDIV001 and MSMSUP106 clustered unit.

Course Outcomes

This course is intended to provide participants with a range of knowledge and skills to perform the following functions in a Christian ministry context:

  • Identify, interpret and compare information related to basic Christian beliefs.

  • Provide information related to Christian beliefs and understandings to some Christian and some non-Christian audiences.

  • Propose what actions are appropriate in a range of life and ministry situations based on interpretations about Christian beliefs.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

All applicants will be required to meet Eastern’s General Entry Requirements.

All potential students are required to satisfactorily complete a new student interview with Eastern College Australia before being accepted into the course.

During this interview we can discuss your previous experience and training and any credit that may be available.

English Language Requirement

For Overseas students:

An applicant for studies in this course will be deemed to have sufficient English proficiency if:

  • They were born in one of the following countries and have completed at least one qualification (secondary or tertiary) in one of those countries and the language in which the qualification was undertaken was English.

American Samoa; Australia; Botswana; Canada; Fiji; Ghana; Guyana; Ireland; Jamaica; Kenya; Lesotho; Liberia; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Singapore; Solomon Islands; South Africa; Tonga; Trinidad and Tobago; United Kingdom; USA; Zambia; Zimbabwe.

  • They were not born in one of the following countries but have completed senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university study in one of these countries and the language in which the qualification was undertaken was English:

  • They have successfully completed a senior secondary qualification, a post secondary Diploma qualification of at least two years, an undergraduate program of three years or more, or a postgraduate program of two years or more FT or more, undertaken in a non-English speaking country provided the study:

was completed in an institution which is listed in the International Handbook of Universities, World Higher Education Database, UK Naric Database or AEI NOOSR guides or an institution accredited through one of ICETE’s registered accrediting bodies and is confirmed by the institution as having been conducted and examined solely in the English language.

  • They have attained results as listed in one of the following qualifications:

Pathways

Graduation from this award allows admittance into any Eastern College Australia Diploma award and may be eligible to enter a range of other higher qualifications offered by RTOs and Higher Education Providers.

Students who completed core and elective units as part of this qualification will be eligible for credit transfer in relation to these units when enrolling in an eligible qualification or accredited course. This will create pathways into qualifications and courses in which these units are a part.

This course supports leaders and lay people assisting in parishes in the areas of ministry and pastoral care to have a deeper understanding of Christian Ministry and Theology. The course is a learning pathway for those who wish to pursue theology and ministry studies at University who may not have studied for a while.
