Skills First funding – 2025 only

Due to the Victorian Government’s priorities for 2025, they had to make significant funding changes to the Skills First program. On the 29 November 2024, Eastern College Australia received the following notification from the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions:

“For 2025, you did not get a commencement allocation.

To decide allocations across the Skills First market:

  • We analysed Victoria’s current and future need for skilled workers and considered how that demand can be met in 2025 through programs at TAFE, dual sector universities and community-based training providers.
  • We then aligned commencement allocations to priority skills sectors, such as housing and foundation skills, and Victoria’s future workforce needs, within the available funding. We also prioritised training that benefits our regional communities.”

As a “Privately Operated Registered Training Organisation”, Eastern is not on their preferred list of providers (see first dot point above). As such, we will not be able to offer Skills First funding to new students in 2025. Eligible students who started in 2024 or earlier, will receive a reduced funding in 2025.

In anticipation that this Skills First funding change will be reviewed for 2026, Eastern College Australia has chosen to offer new fee arrangements for 2025 only, to encourage (or not to discourage) prospective students to move forward in their plans to pursue further training and education. These 2025 only fee changes will be advertised in each of the courses affected. We remain committed to support students who want to study and acquire new skills, delivered from a Christian perspective.

Students enrolled with Eastern College Australia, which has been approved as a higher education provider (IHE), may have an entitlement to access the Fee Paying Higher Education Loan Program (FEE-HELP). FEE-HELP is a loan scheme which assists eligible students to pay their tuition fees. FEE-HELP can cover all or part of the student’s tuition fees, up to a combined HELP loan limit of $126,839 (for 2025). The Australian Government pays the student’s tuition fee to the Higher Education Provider (Eastern College Australia) on behalf of the student, and students begin to repay their FEE-HELP debt to the Australian Government once their income reaches a prescribed threshold. The compulsory repayment threshold for the 2024-25 income year will be $54,435.

Students studying at degree, post graduate and masters level may apply. Eastern College Australia has an obligation to provide Tertiary Assurance. This means that, in the event the College cannot provide the educational services required for students to complete their awards, the students can enroll in a similar course of study with another higher education provider and receive full credit towards the same or a comparable qualification from the second provider for any successfully completed units of study undertaken as part of that course of study and, if necessary, receive a payment equivalent to any student contribution amount or tuition fee paid for any undelivered unit of study. For more information about Tertiary Assurance please read the Statement of Tuition Course Assurance.

In order to administer the FEE-HELP scheme, student’s personal information is provided to the Commonwealth and State higher education authorities at the time they provide their personal details on application to Eastern College Australia and when they complete the Request for Commonwealth Assistance form. This form and the FEE-HELP information booklet are available upon request.
