Music (Years 7 to 10)

This unit covers the Music learning area of State and National Curriculum for Years 7-10. Students will engage with current knowledge and understanding about the various strategies and features for developing effective lessons and assessments to engage a diverse range of students in Music. Students will incorporate appropriate use of ICT in Music processes and for enhancing learning experiences in this discipline. Students will develop a critical understanding from a Christian perspective of the various frameworks that have driven and shaped the curriculum and teaching of Music. Students will also engage in providing grading and feedback of various assessment tasks in line with proficient teaching and current research in order to maximise the effectiveness and quality of learning in Music. Topics: + Knowing adolescents and how they learn + Understanding the State and National Curriculum for Years 7-10 + Building on the primary years – an overview + History and Christian perspectives of Music + Unit and lesson planning + Integrating general capabilities and cross-curriculum as relevant to Music + Pedagogical content knowledge for Music + Management strategies for practical music lessons + Integrating resources including ICT with the Music curriculum + Assessment design and feedback + Strategies for keeping accurate and reliable records + Grading, moderation, and reporting student achievement + Data and Differentiation for Improvement + Understanding, respecting and responding to student diversity, including protocols + Strategies for involving parents in educative processes
