An Important Announcement from Eastern College Australia

The Board of Eastern College Australia is delighted to announce the formation of a significant new partnership with MST (Melbourne School of Theology). MST, founded in 1920, is an evangelical, non-denominational college whose awards for Theology and Ministry are accredited through the Australian College of Theology (ACT).

Our decision to formally partner with MST follows an extended period of prayerful dialogue, in which the Boards and Executive teams of both schools have sought the will and direction of God, and explored ways in which we can synergise our strengths and joint resources to provide an exciting future for Christian higher education in Victoria and globally.

In a rapidly changing sector and world, we recognize the critical importance of being agile and responsive to the needs of our students and the contexts in which they serve. With a combined population of over 600 students, spread throughout Australia and internationally, we believe that this new relationship will significantly strengthen, and broaden, our capacity to serve the Church and the increasingly complex world in which we live and equip God’s people to fulfil their God-given vocation.

As collaborating Colleges, both Eastern and MST will retain our separate identities, and offer distinctly accredited Courses and Awards. In the case of MST, they will continue to offer high-quality training in Theology, Biblical Studies, Mission and Ministry, from Diploma to Doctorate.

Eastern College will continue as a registered Higher Education Provider and we will continue to offer high quality, government-accredited Eastern College awards from Certificate to Masters. We will have a continued and growing commitment to our existing areas of current focus including Theology, Education, Counseling, Visual Art, the Humanities, Youth Work, and Community Development, all taught from a Christian worldview.

Eastern College will relocate to the MST Campus at Burwood Highway, Wantirna in Melbourne’s east, in December 2017.

Dr Cheryl McCallum will continue to lead Eastern College as Principal while the current MST Principal, Rev Timothy Meyers will likewise continue on as Principal of MST. The Boards of Eastern College and MST are working well together for a seamless transition.

We believe this new partnership will better position each college to achieve a greater impact for the Kingdom of God through increased cross-institutional study opportunities for students, cross-pollination of faculty expertise, shared key appointments, shared resources, closer alignment and joint new initiatives.

Eastern students will continue their studies with minimal change to their education experience, but with the enormous benefits of a permanent home and opportunities to connect deeply as part of a large like-minded community.

The Eastern Board and staff would ask for your prayers as we navigate this exciting, and significant new step of growth for Eastern College. We know that God has birthed and sustained the College throughout its history and we look forward to his continued leading as we set out on this new adventure. Crucial to our past, present and future is your valued support – prayer, finance and encouragement.

Each year our graduates are charged with the reminder from Ephesians 2:10 that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Our prayer and belief is that this new partnership will be an ongoing fulfilment of this declaration.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments.

In His grace,

Mr Jame Lewis Dr Cheryl McCallum
