Eastern College Australia delivers the Cert III in Education Support in local primary schools
During 2017 delivery will occur at the following schools:

Blanchards Customised Training is an authorised broker of Eastern College for sourcing potential students.

All potential students are required to satisfactorily complete a new student interview with Eastern College Australia before being accepted into the course.

 

The purpose of this course is to:

  • Qualify individuals who either are, or are aspiring to have a role in a range of education settings, including public and independent schools and community education settings. In particular, to qualify individuals who provide assistance and support to teachers and students under broad-based supervision such as: teacher aides, education assistants, language workers, literacy workers, and school support workers.

Graduates of this course will have acquired theoretical and practical knowledge related to working in an education support role.

The graduates of this course will also have gained skills consistent with the Certificate III AQF descriptor such as the ability to:

  • Use considered judgement when advising others on possible courses of action in a range of education support settings.

  • Apply and communicate solutions to a variety of predictable problems.

  • Provide technical information to a variety of audiences.

  • Undertake routine and some non-routine education support tasks.

Graduates of this Course will demonstrate the application of the knowledge and skills they have gained by:

  • Exercising judgment in the selection of equipment and services.

  • Adapting and transferring skills and knowledge within known routines, methods and procedures and time constraints.

  • Taking responsibility for their own work including participation in teams and taking limited responsibility for the output of others within established parameters.

Admission Criteria

  • General Entry Requirements for all courses at Eastern College Australia.

  • There are no academic entry requirements for this course.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Requirement

An applicant for this course will be deemed to have sufficient LLN proficiency if they can demonstrate the following minimum ACSF levels:

  • Level 2 in Learning, Reading, Writing, Oral Communication, and Numeracy. 

Initial pre-training assessment will be conducted by reviewing the prospective student’s qualifications, on-line application and/or written application form. As a general guide the following will meet the minimum requirements:

  • The applicant was born in a country where the official language is English and they have completed at least one year of a senior secondary qualification or at least one year of full-time study at a minimum AQF level 2 (or equivalent). 
  • They were not born in in a country where the official language is English, but have completed at least one year of a senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time study at a minimum AQF level 2 (or equivalent) in which the qualification was undertaken in English.

Further pre-training assessment shall be conducted during the mandatory face-to-face interview. Where pre-training assessment suggests ACSF levels are below the recommended level the prospective student may be directed to complete a foundation skills course (at their expense) prior to acceptance into the course.

Course Structure

  • The course has been developed to be delivered over 30 consecutive weeks in a local primary school.

  • The course utilises a blended format where students attend a weekly training session at the school, a weekly placement at an educational facility, and with the provision of additional resources on-line.

  • Students must successfully complete 17 units of competency to complete the award - 12 core and 5 electives.

  • Students will also need to complete a minimum of 100 hours with one educational institution in their education placement . The placement may be completed at the primary school where they receive weekly training or at another educational institution.

Pathways

Graduation from this award allows admittance into any Eastern's Diploma award and admittance into Eastern’s Bachelor of Education award.
