  • Available to domestic students.

Are you looking to develop further as an educational leader? Sharpen your professional practice as a teacher or educator? More confidently integrate biblical truth into your own specific educational discipline?

The Master of Education offers outstanding professional development for teachers, managers, administrators and leaders, with areas of study in leadership, curriculum development, inclusive teaching, and professional self care. You’ll explore the significant positive contribution a Christian perspective can make to education, and undertake research in your area of interest. The course fosters the application of evidence-based research and reflective practice across a range of disciplines and a variety of elective subject areas.

We recognise that educational practitioners have limited time to study, so our M Ed is delivered in a convenient blended online and in-person mode. Students may also access some specialist Master Units offered by Melbourne School of Theology, making this one of the most comprehensive courses of its type in Australia.

Where will this lead me?

  • Graduates find employment in government and non-government schools in Australia and internationally.

  • Graduates may be eligible for higher level positions or increased salary and benefits after achieving this award.

  • Graduates may continue on to higher studies in education and related fields.

The Masters of Education consists of two 6 credit point units and five 12 credit point units (72 credit points).

Course Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of educational theory, professional practice and a Christian worldview, including recent developments in these fields.

  • Demonstrate expert, specialised cognitive and technical skills to critically analyse, reflect on and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories related to education.

  • Research and apply established theories of education to inform policy and practice demonstrating expert, specialised cognitive and technical skills.

  • Interpret and communicate knowledge, skills and ideas to specialist and non-specialist audiences in educational settings, demonstrating expert, specialised cognitive and technical skills.

  • Apply research principles and methods to plan, conduct, interpret and communicate a research based project.

  • Apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, expert judgement, adaptability and responsibility as an educational practitioner, including a Christian worldview that incorporates faith, reason and justice.

Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements

Students must be or have been a registered teacher, as evident with having completed.

  • An Australian undergraduate degree (AQF 7) and a fourth-year level education qualification (AQF 8), or equivalent, OR

  • An Australian four-year education degree (AQF 7), or equivalent
Professional Experience Requirements
  • 2 years professional experience in an educational setting (or part-time equivalent) within the last 10 years
English Language Requirement

Applicants must meet the English language requirements.

Other Requirements
  • Students who have previously completed accredited studies in a both Christian philosophy and Theological studies at a lower level may be exempted from ED860 Worldviews and Education and ED803 Biblical Interpretation for Educators but will be required to complete another unit to make up for it.

  • Students must complete 48 credit point units of coursework including ED990.512 Research Methods in Educational Contexts prior to enrolling in RP994.512 Research Project.

  • Research proposals for RP994.512 Research Project require ethical clearance from the Eastern College Australia HREC. As part of gaining approval for their research proposal candidates must negotiate access to the appropriate organisational or community contexts prior to the commencement of research.

This course is not open to overseas students to study in Australia.

Eastern College Australia values the history, culture and languages of First Nations people and we welcome their  participation in all of our courses.

Pathways

It is expected that this award will gain entry into a Doctor of Education award offered at universities in Australia, however no specific agreements have been entered into by Eastern College Australia.
