What is the census date?
The census date for a unit of study is the closing date for requesting HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP assistance.
Importance of the census date
The census date is important because it is the deadline for:
- completing and submitting a Request for FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP assistance form
- providing your Tax File Number or Certificate of application for a TFN, if you request a FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP loan
Census date: your responsibility
You are responsible for meeting your provider's census deadline. You must be aware of your provider's census dates. Eastern College Australia usually publishes the dates by 1 December of the year prior to the commencement of that unit. You should check the census dates for your units with your provider.
You may be enrolling in units of study which have different census dates. You will need to ensure that you meet the requirements for each unit of study by the census date for that unit.
You should check that all your enrolment and payment details are correct prior to the census date.
Missing the Census date
The following scenarios outlines the impact of missing the census deadline.
If, by the census date, you fail to complete and submit your Request for FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP Assistance Form then you will not receive a FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP loan.
OR
If, by the census date, you fail to submit your:
- Tax File Number (TFN), or
- Certificate of application for TFN
then you will not receive a FEE-HELP or HECS-HELP loan.
Census date and your FEE-HELP debt
If you have requested a FEE-HELP loan for your units of study then you will incur a debt for any unpaid tuition fees for those units on the census date.
You will not incur a FEE-HELP debt for your units of study if, before the census date, you withdraw
Census date and your HECS-HELP debt
If you have requested a HECS-HELP loan for your units of study then you will incur a debt for any unpaid tuition fees for those units on the census date.
You will not incur a HECS-HELP debt for your units of study if, before the census date, you withdraw.
